About the E2 Program
This is the most advanced Alcan Nancy Greene Ski League (“ANGSL”) program for children 9-10 years old. It is a transition from ANGSL to the K1 (11-12 year old) program.
Our primary goal in this program is “Miles and Smiles”. The E2 program offers an excellent opportunity for young athletes to improve their skiing skills with an increased focus on technical skiing and racing. The kids will enjoy a good mix of skiing from Free, Steep & Deep, Mogul, Gates and Race Course. It’s an excellent environment for young athletes to improve their skiing skills while getting a taste of racing with a fun group of peers.
Schedule
E2 Skiers will start as soon as the season opens, usually the first part of December. The E2 program is from 9 - 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. FAST organizes a number of ski camps during Christmas and Spring break. The camps are optional but their cost is included in the program fees and all E2 skiers are welcome to join in. The fees also include the Club Championship race, athlete-parent race and year-end banquet.
This program is for kids who like to rip it up all weekend. Whether they aspire to become a competitive racer or a great all-mountain skier, this program will teach them the strong basic skills they require.
Races
E2 athletes will have the chance to compete in one Kootenay Zone race as well as the Friends of F.A.S.T Series. Second year E2 athletes can also attend the Kootenay Final Kinder Zone Race if they choose to experience first hand what the Kinder (K1) series is all about. The race schedule can be downloaded from the FAST calendar. All away races are optional attendance but encouraged, as they are a very enjoyable experience for the athletes and the parents.
Linda Putnam Memorial Race – This invitational race is held at Panorama each year for E1 and E2 athletes. It is a fun race and participation is entirely optional. The race is very well organized, a lot of fun and there are many prizes. It is very popular with both young athletes and parents. It is a great introduction to inter-club racing.
Kootenay Zone Final – Held at a different club in the East Kootenay zone each year, this is the only zone race for the E2 age group in the season. Participation is entirely optional. Location for the current year schedule can be found on the FAST calendar. FAST usually has a contingent at these events so there are coaches available for any child who wishes to participate.
Equipment
Helmets: All E2 Athletes are required to wear full over-the -ear hard shell alpine ski racing helmets..
Skis - Any type of skis will do as long as they are in good condition and have properly suited and adjusted bindings. A pair of junior racing/carving skis is ideal but not mandatory.
It is the PARENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that their child has properly fitting and properly functioning equipment.
