To all FAST members;

The season may be coming to an end but FAST is not slowing down.  Lots of things happening still.  A number of items for you to ponder over this week:

FAST FACTS – Many FAST accomplishments to share this week.

K2 Westerns at Kelowna - Great skiing by all ….but special mention to: Hallie MacLachlan (2nd overall), Mia Henry 8th, Stephanie Gartner 9th  Jamie Honsberger 13th and  Patrick Carry 6th.  They will all be representing FAST and BC at the K2 Nationals in Collingwood, Ontario next week.

FIS Vernon highlights - Roger Carry  and Emma Johnson finished in the top 10

BC games – Simon bronze medalist in Slalom.

BC High School Championships – Hallie MacLachlan 3rd

E1 Festival at Kimberley – I did not get any feedback here. How did we do??

Fernie Powder 8 Championships - Fast Parents Darcy Martin and Annica Collombin 2nd Place (easily thrashing her husband Mike – 5th).

E1 SKI-A-THON - On Saturday March 27 at 9:30 a.m. FAST E1 skiers will be holding the annual Ski-a-Thon.  The Ski-a-Thon is a fund raiser for the Fernie Alpine Ski Team, which enables the club to buy much needed equipment.  This fund raiser, along with the many volunteers that help each year, allows FAST to charge lower fees and involve more children in skiing.  Your support would be greatly appreciated!

How It Works:

1)     Print off the Pledge form (attachment) and sign up as many sponsors as you can.  The pledges are for a dollar amount per lap of “Spruce”, the run beside the Haul Back T-bar.

2)     Ski up to 20 laps on Saturday March 27, starting at 9:30 am

3)     Collect the money and bring it to the FAST banquet.

To make it fun for the participants, several coaches will be setting up race courses on Spruce for the racers to hone their skills in preparation for the Club Championships.   We will also have a radar gun, so you can check your speed!

All participants will receive hot dogs or hamburgers for lunch, provided by the club.  A minimum pledge donation of $30 is required.

The following prizes can be earned by participants:

$50 ---Hand Held Game

$100 ---Cool Hat

$200 ---Toque & Goggles

$300 --- Helmet

$700 --- F.A.S.T. Ski Suit

$1000 --- SL or GS Race Skis

SUNSHINE CAMP – Last chance to sign up for the  Sunshine Camp. This is a two or three day camp at Sunshine village for athletes final year E2 and up. It focused on ski skills only. No gates.  We stay on the mountain so there is no driving involved. Tradition has it that Rod Timm spends a day with the parents to work on their ski skills as well.  This is a great low keyyear ender event for the entire family.   Those that have been before will give this event rave reviews.  We are looking at May 15 to 17, 2010.  Here is what you need to do:

1 – If you think you may want to attend please email Thorna Lawrence at thornal@shaw.ca TODAY.

Thank you to Thorna for stepping up to organize this event.

YEAR END BANQUET & AGM -   On April 3 is our final club race and Year End Banquet.  Fernie Community Centre at 6:00 pm.  A must attend for all the kids.  No athlete goes home empty handed.  We are following the awards with a dance this year.

Even more fun is our Annual General Meeting which will be held on April 4 at 1 pm at Timberline Lodge at the hill.   If you want your questions answered or want to get more involved this is your chance.

Regards,

Chris
