“I remember my first ever tail-gunning experience,” says Adam. “It was with the U8 Shark Shredders led by coach Chris Slubicki. As 10 a.m. approached, I made the mistake of engaging in social banter with one of the other parents. Not appreciating that 10 means 10, when the clock struck 10:01, Chris barked ‘Hey, tail gunner. Are you here to chat or work? Let’s go.’ And with that, my tail-gunning career was both born, and ended, all at once."
With one kid through the FAST program, one still actively racing, and a fondness for the Fernie lifestyle, volunteering with the club was a natural fit for Adam. For the past six years, you may have seen him in a variety of roles from timing, start hut, course maintenance, official “missed gate flag up guy” capacity, and just as importantly, cheering/consoling.
“I support FAST because it makes my kids better skiers and more importantly, better people,” says Adam. “If you haven’t volunteered with the club before, I’d encourage you to give it a shot and unlike hockey parents, we all genuinely like each other."
